nasmichael: My chessfriend Lee M. shared this game with me today for the first time, and I enjoyed it so much I wanted to see it again.

Black's forces, slow and steady, increase the pressure kingside to reveal an ultimately free king's pawn to promote and mate without reprisal, despite being surrounded on either side by major pieces. Both white rook and queen are helpless. Short goes down an exchange (rook for knight) but renders the remaining rook inert.

Wow.

GMs are quite impressive. They do "play a different game, but by the same rules". ;-)

Oct-23-08  ZIMMIE: i totally agree a beautiful and smooth game nigel only became a gm in 1984
