  al wazir: Pretty easy.
Dec-20-18  ChessHigherCat: This variant definitely wins:
42. Rh6+ Bxh6 43. Qg6+ Kh8 44. Qxh6+ (44. Nf7+ Qxf7 45. Qxf7 wins the queen but it's not as clear cut) Qh7 45. Nf7+ Kg8 46. Qxh7+ Kxh7 47. Nxd8
Dec-20-18  ChessHigherCat: I forgot to mention that if 42...Kg8 43. Qe6+ wins immediately, of course
Dec-20-18  saturn2: I looked at 42. Rh6+

42...Bxh6 43. Qg6+ Kh8 44. Qxh6+ Kg8 45. Qg5+ Kh7 46. Qxh4+

White has 3 pawns for the exchange now which is advantegeous.

Dec-20-18  ChessHigherCat: I just noticed that in my line, 44. Kg8 is a better defense than 44. Qh7, but it's still any easy win for black because with the bishop controlling f8 and the knight controlling f7, black can easily force the queen to h8, play QxN+ and if QxQ white is "royally forked" by Nf7+
Dec-20-18  yadasampati: <al wazir> Pretty indeed, but not easy :-)
Dec-20-18  Tomate: 42.Rh6+ Bxh6 (42..Kg8 43.Qe6+ Kf8 44.Ng6#) 43.Qg6+ Kh8 44.Qxh6+ (better than 44.Nf7+ Qxf7 winning a Q for R+N) 44..Kg8 (44..Qh7 45.Nf7+ Kg8 46.Qxh7+ followed by Nxd8) 45.Qg5+ Kh8 (45..Kh7 46.Qg6+ Kh8 47.Nf7+ wins a Q for a single rook) 46.Qxd8+
Dec-20-18  Walter Glattke: 45.Qg5+ Kh8 46.Nf7+ Qxf7 47.Qxc8+ Kg7 48.Qg5+ (Qxh4 Qf2+ draw) Kh7 49.Qxh5+ 3 p ahead 46.-Kh8?/Kh7? 47.Qh6+ Kg8 48.Qg6# / 45.-Qg7 46.Qc8+ Kh7 47.Qxh4+ winning
Dec-20-18  talwnbe4: 42. Rh6+ (clearance of g6) 42..Kg8 Qe6+ 43. Qf7 Qxf7 mate

42. Rh6+ Bxh6 43. Qg6+ Kh8 44. Qxh6+
Kg8 45. Qg5+ Qg7 Qxd8+ is winning

42. Rh6+ Bxh6 43. Qg6+ Kh8 44. Qxh6+
Kg8 45. Qg5+ Kh8 46. Qxd8+ Qxd8 47. Nf7+ wins

42. Rh6+ Bxh6 43. Qg6+ Kh8 44. Qxh6+ Qh7 45. Nf7+ Kg8 46. Qxh7+ Kxh7 47. Nxd8

42. Rh6+ Bxh6 43. Qg6+ Kh8 44. Qxh6+
Kg8 45. Qg5+ Kh7 46. Qg6+ Kh8 Nf7+ forces a queen exhange on f7 winning

.. and white can interpose another check picking off the h-pawn in some of the above lines

Dec-20-18  cocker: 44 Nf7+ is maybe not the best, but should also win.
Dec-20-18  1stboard: Lothar Schmid - was the referee at the Spassky - Fischer title match in 1972
Dec-20-18  KingsideBishop: I agree with al, I got this one within a couple of seconds...
Dec-20-18  jayfreeman: <cocker> i also went for 44 Nf7+. also not sure it is the best, but i think it is easier to play this line. at least if you are a person, not stockfish.
Dec-20-18  agb2002: White has two extra pawns.

Black threatens hxg3+ and an eventual Bxe5.

The white rook blocks Qg6+. Therefore, 42.Rh6+ Bxh6 (42... Kg8 43.Qe6+ and mate next) 43.Qg6+ Kh8 44.Qxh6+ (probably quicker than 44.Nf7+ Qxf7 45.Qxf7 hxg3+):

A) 44... Qh7 45.Nf7+ Kg8 46.Qxh7+ Kxh7 47.Nxd8 + - [B+2P].

B) 44... Kg8 45.Qg5+ (45.Qe6+ Kh8 obliges to 46.Qh6+ delaying matters two moves)

B.1) 45... Qg7 46.Qxd8+ followed by 47.Qxd5 and Black doesn't seem to have perpetual.

B.2) 45... Kh7 46.Qg6+ Kh8 47.Nf7+ Qxf7 48.Qxf7 + - [Q+B+2P vs r+n].

B.3) 45... Kh8 46.Qxd8+ Qxd8 47.Nf7+ and 48.Nxd8 + - [B+2P].

Dec-20-18  WDenayer: Unbelievable. So easy and I didn't find it!
Dec-20-18  landshark: The clearance sacrifice 42.Rh6+ is the way to go - Bxh6 43.Qg6+ wins the Q for a R+B and no compensation, while ....Kg8 43.Qe6+ mates.
Dec-20-18  cormier: 36...Qxc7 is best

Dec-20-18  Mayankk: I had 44 Nf7+ unfortunately. It should still win since Black’s pieces are pretty scattered and White’s Queen is right in the middle of all the chaos. But not as clean as 44 Qxh6+.
