Jul-24-03  AgentRgent: Did black resign because of 37. Rd8+ Kg7 38. Ra8 a6 39. Ra7 with Be8 to follow?
Jul-24-03  Corben: No, theres an unavoidable mate in 4 after:
37. Rd8+ White moves
38. Bg5 White moves
39. Bf6 White moves
40. Rh8#
Jul-24-03  ughaibu: I make it mate in 5.
Jul-24-03  AgentRgent: <Corben> Are you sure? 37. Rd8+ Kg7 38. Bg5? Bxe5! 39. Bf6? Bxf6!

Honza Cervenka: There is no quick mate but white is two pawns up and the endgame is hopeless for black. Of course, maybe black did not resing but lost on time.
Jun-12-05  DP12: I think the inevitable loss of f7 might have discouraged black but Honza's second explanation seems possible as well.
