Kibitzer's Corner
Jul-15-13  csmath: Fine game by Timman. Dutch have never had better player after Timman. But in this game I was wondering in the opening was it Timman that played white. Rather weird opening by Polugaevsky.
Jul-15-13  SimonWebbsTiger: Not really that weird an opening. It was very aggressive play by Polugayevsky. He has compensation at move 17, Timman recommended 18...Rc8 and thought Lev had the advantage after 25. a4 Nd6 26. Na2 Nb7 27. ab ab 28. Nb4, rather than his 25. h3

Lev went wrong with 45. Rd8. The position was equal.

btw, being a tadge unfair to Loek van Wely, aren't you?

Jul-30-17  fispok: 39.dxe6 would have been superior, as Qxe6 is forced to prevent shattering the pawns, following up with f5 would have been more than enough.
