May-13-11  ColdSong: What a pawn structure.Probably Boris Vasilievich's sense of humour.
May-13-11  mrsaturdaypants: Strange draw. There's material balance, but pretty stark dramatic imbalance. I guess the point is that Spassky has lots of opportunity against black's a, b, and e pawns, but has such a ridiculous pawn structure himself, as <ColdSong> notes, that a counterattack might be devastating. I sure would have liked to see the ending, though.

woldsmandriffield: In the final position, Portisch has just gambited the Pa7 so indeed a strange point to halve the point. 26 Qxa7 Qc8 27 Qb6 and Black has to prove he has compensation.

Maybe Portisch planned to go all-in and sac the Pb7 as well (though this hardly seems his style): 26 Qxa7 Rbg8 27 Rxb7 d4 28 cxd4 Qxf3 29 R1b4 e5 but the attack is not dangerous and White's pawns are racing up the board.
