Kibitzer's Corner
Jan-01-06  Jim Bartle: This was a last round game in the Interzonal. Portisch needed the win to get into a playoff with John Nunn for the last spot in the candidates. Nunn writes that his heart sank when Velimirovic made the "totally unjustified" knight sacrifice on move 12. (Nunn had blown winning positions in two of the previous three rounds.) Portisch later won the playoff.
Jan-01-06  twinlark: It's a strange one. Velimirovic never looked like he had an attack.
