Feb-23-05  AdrianP: 20...Kh8 "A move of historic importance!" (Sveshnikov)
Feb-23-05  Zaius: What would 13...Nxd5 lead to? 14. Bxh7 maybe?
Dec-04-05  aw1988: Right, probably Bxh7.
May-04-06  notyetagm: <AdrianP: 20...Kh8 "A move of historic importance!" (Sveshnikov)>

Yes, I read this quote in Yakovich's book The Complete Sveshnikov Sicilian.

Larsen plays the thematic Sveshnikov kingside attack down the half-open g-file.

May-04-06  notyetagm: 22 ... ♗g7xc3! uses the <CLEARANCE> tactic, vacating the the g-file with tempo to threaten 23 ... ♖f8-g8, pinning the White g5-queen to the White g1-king behind her.
Oct-05-09  parisattack: This game made a great impression on me when I saw it in Larsen's book (Game #19 and nicely annotated). I was looking for an out-of-the box defence to 1. e4 ...but not too out-of-the-box and this seemed perfect. I played it for three years with great success from 1970-1973.

Larsen mentions this was his mass destruction defence in simuls. He had written an article in Skakbladet,December 1963. (If anyone has this I would love to see it!) He also played it against Olafsson, Zurich 1959.

He gives 9.... Rc8 (!) over the older 9. ...Nd4. Curiously he did play 9. ...b5 in the Olafsson game, stranding the Kn on a3 and almost certainly the trunk game for the Sveshnikov variation?
