  tpstar: After facing 4. Nxd4 Qb6 I thought about 5. Nf5 but didn't like 5 ... e6 6. Nd6+ Bxd6 7. Qxd6 Qb4+ getting the Queens off. I wonder how White would have handled 6 ... Qxb2 7. Nd2 e6 8. Rb1 Qf6. After 6 ... Qd8 7. Nd4 it looks like both players were happy to return to a standard line, then came 8 ... e5 9. Nf5!? d5! equalizing. After 18. c4 Nf6 19. Qe2 Black has the superior chances with either the safe 19 ... 0-0 or the risky 19 ... 0-0-0!?.

plang: The same two opponents repeated this line at the 2000 US Open in St Paul. Yermolinsky this time played 11..Nfd5 and went on to win (game not included in this database).
