Kibitzer's Corner
Mar-14-06  Chicago Chess Man: Very confused as to why Shirov won this one, unless it was by time or there was an error in the score sheet... Does anyone else see it?
Mar-14-06  Jim Bartle: The final move according to "Fire on Board" is 23. Qc3, not Qe3. Shirov gives 23...Bxa2 24 Bf1 Qc8 25 b3 Rd8 26 Nc6 Rd6 27 Nb4 as winning.
Aug-20-10  Lyink: With Qc3 black cannot avoid getting his queen trapped (with whites Bf1), with the line given above.

Domdaniel: <FSR> Foiled again. Well done. I'd been looking for Shirov games with Queen on a8, b8 ... but I knew a copy of Fire on Board would have helped ... and Tal was a distraction, after I'd dealt with Nimzo's caged Queens.

Oy.

FSR: <Dom> Thanks. <abuzic> in the Kibitzer's CafĂ© <very> kindly pointed to a searchable copy of "Fire on Board" that some pirate has placed on the Internet, and opined that it would contain the answer or at least a clue thereto. I just searched the book for "queen" and got the answer; had I searched for "caged" instead I would have gotten it instantly.

Domdaniel: <FSR> I seem to recall <Ohio> kindly donating an idea in the same way. Some folk are just good-hearted, though one might query their taste in Cafes.

Penguincw: A quiet move but black waves the flag.
