Kibitzer's Corner
Jan-06-10  waddayaplay: White had a slight edge until he missed 25.

In the database, Vaganian is the first to have played 8. ..Bd6 (http://www.chessgames.com/perl/ches...)

12.c5. 12.g3 was played in R Garbarino vs Short, 1982, but c5 is the most popular move (Opening Explorer)

24.g3?. If instead 24.♘c3 ♗d2 25.♖d1 ♗xc3 26.♗xc3 ♗b5 27.♗xb5 axb5 white still has the advantage.

25. ..♗c6! very clever. If now ♗xe6 then ♗f3.

26.f4 =. Maybe better is 26.♗c3 ♗h6, but note that 27.♗xe6 still doesn't work because of ♗b5.

28.♗xe6? doesn't work. 28.♗c3 ♗xc3 29.♘xc3 ♘f5 =

The rest of the game is played flawlessly by Short.
