Kibitzer's Corner
Mar-08-07  euripides: Smyslov experiments with the archaic 5.Bd3, which goes back to Anderssen, and runs into a tactical firestorm.
Mar-08-07  vonKrolock: <23.♘h5>? Better ♕g5 - I have (I should to) the Informator with this game, later I'll search in the famous attic
Aug-10-15  jerseybob: Euripides: Bobby Fischer also experimented with the "archaic" 5.Bd3 against Petrosian in 1971! More to the point, I've got a hunch that Smyslov, in going into the whole combo starting with 21.Nf6+, planned to top it off with the retreat 23.Ng3, but then realized 23..Nd7! is a killer. VonKrolock: Isn't 23.Qg5,Qg5,24.Bg5,Kg7 25.Nh5+,Kg6 a winner for black?

offramp: <jerseybob> it is so tedious when notation seems to be wrong. By 23.Ng3 do you mean Ng4?
Aug-10-15  jerseybob: offramp: Sorry. My mistake was not in the square but the move number. I meant 24.Ng3, which blocks the bishop from defending f2.

Mateo: Since 20...gxh5! until the end, perfect play from Spassky at his best.
