  Honza Cervenka: Smyslov was very close to a nice win in this game but after Timman's 37...Kg8!? (which he did not expect playing 36.Nxg6) he did not find beautiful 38.Bf7+!! Rxf7 [38...Kxf7 39.Qe4 (threatening Qh7#) 39...Rg8 40.Qh7+ Kf8 41.Qxh6+ Kf7 42.Qh5+ Rg6 (42...Kf8? 43.Q or Re8#) 43.Qh7+ ] 39.Re8+ Kh7 (39...Rf8 40.Qe4 threatening Qg6+) 40.Qe4+ Qf5 41.Rh8+ Kg6 42.Rg8+ Kh7 43.Rg7+ Rxg7 44.Qxf5+ and white wins. Smyslov's idea was 37...Kxg6 38.Re6+ Rf6 (38...Bf6 39.Qe4+ Kg7 40.Re7+ Rf7 41.Rxf7+ Kxf7 42.Qh7+ Kf8 43.Bxf6 ) 39.Qe4+ Kg7 40.Rxf6! Bxf6 41.Qe7+ Kg8 42.Qxf6 Nc3 43.Rd3 and he could have avoided Timman's (objectively insufficient) defence playing 36.Nxf7! Rxf7 37.Bxg6+! as he showed immediately after the game.
