Kibitzer's Corner
Sep-08-07  Maynard5: This game features some good thematic play by Spassky in the Modern Benoni. Black exchanges bishop for knight in order to be able to advance his pawn to c4, and then defends the pawn tactically. then, with 19. ... b5, Black consolidates his position on the queenside. White then attempts a belated counterattack on the kingside, but it is rapidly repulsed, after which Black wins easily.
Nov-18-15  zydeco: Interesting decision by Spassky to play the Benoni in what would have been pretty much the most important game of his career. (Maybe that's what comes from hanging around with Tal?)

10.Nd2 is now SOP in this type of position - white would much rather trade off the bishop than the knight.

I definitely prefer 29.Qxg5 to 29.fxg7?! - when black would be saddled with a horrific bishop.

Nov-19-15  NeverAgain: <zydeco: Maybe that's what comes from hanging around with Tal?>

Tolush's influence as Spassky's coach is more likely. BTW, the previous year Spassky beat Tal from the Black side of the same opening.

Aug-07-17  Saniyat24: 13...c4 opened up the game for Spassky, as a result he could create pressure in the center and later have an open e-file...
