Kibitzer's Corner
Feb-08-06  Runemaster: 15...d4 is an important sort of breakthrough in this opening - if it works. At first sight, it seemed a little premature to me here as Black's queenside pieces are not developed.

I think 15...d4 is justified, though, by the line 16.exd4 cxd4 17.Nxd4 Bxd4 18.Rxd4 Rxd4 19.Qxd4 Qg5 with the double threat of mate on g2 and attack on the rook on c1.

White tried to get fancy with 15.Qb3 but it didn't work and Black was left the exchange up. Spassky then made sure of the win.
