In fact, i'm not sure the second exchange sac is really necessary, as Black's position already looks very bad, but sacrificing the second exchange seems to be more forcing. Black's big mistake in this game seems to be 9...g6?. I was probably better to prepare the advance on the queenside with something like ...Nc7, ...a6, ...Rb8, ...b5, and avoid making any weakening moves on the kingside for the time being. |

I'd say it was the former World Champ's trading his ♖s for 2♘ + 2♙ that opened the game up, and pretty decisively at that. But it's hard to find an alternative to 21. ... ♘g4 that wouldn't lead to Spassky just strangling Black to death. Maybe the silly move was to play the Czech Benoni against him, sort of like trying to rope-a-dope Muhammed Ali? |

Black's Rooks are on e8 and h4, so at move 43, your line must continue 43. Qf6+ Kg8 44. Qxh4. Otherwise, very nice analysis. |

Black has various defenses but White's seems to get good chances (based on examining a few variations). This is all based on looking at the position with Fritz 5.32 (the free version). |
