Kibitzer's Corner
Oct-03-03  fred lennox: Power is the keynote to Spielmann's play. The more powerful the piece the more impressive his prowess. He is a virtuoso with the queen. Most GMs treat the queen as a general whose main job is to generate energy to the peices (until the endgame). Spielmann flips the coin. The peices duty is to create mobility to the queen. Since the queen gets easily harrased, it is a showing of his open, fluid and subtle play. Many sacrifices have this idea in mind. It dominates his strategy even more than the bishop pair advantage.
Oct-03-03  ughaibu: Fred Lennox: Thanks for that, it's certainly among the most interesting comments I've read at Chessgames.
Dec-19-04  Everett: 18.a5, pitching a pawn, gains white time to generate clear and patient pressure for a kingside attack. Spielmann's execution is pretty impressive here.
