Kibitzer's Corner
Sep-15-07  Maynard5: This game is a good example of Black's counterattacking opportunities in the Winawer French. With no real attacking opportunities on the other wing, White tries to play against Black's kingside pawns, which are actually poised for an advance. But with the dubious 25. Rg6 followed by the disastrous 26. g4? White ends up trapping his own rook, eventually losing the exchange. Stein resists to the bitter end, but Uhlmann patiently builds to a win in the endgame.
Feb-01-11  Marmot PFL: White was hoping for 27...Nxg6 28 fg with some chances for the f5 break, but 27...Qf7! denies him this. As white was already a pawn down he felt he needed to play for complications.
