Kibitzer's Corner
Aug-04-13  technical draw: There's no way to protect white's a pawn. Barcza had bad luck against Tal, losing 3 and drawing 1 with no wins.

profK: After 16 moves black is fully developed and white's humble knight sits on the back rank! Hardly a way to play against Tal.
Aug-05-13  RookFile: Either 40. Ra7 or 40. Nc6 suggests itself. Can white hold a draw?

perfidious: <td....Barcza had bad luck against Tal....>

Seems to me Barcza made his own luck in these games.

Playing a limp opening as White, then punctiliously exchanging everything in sight, is a good way to get ground down by a stronger opponent.

Feb-27-16  paul1959: Looks like White had a chance on the 22nd move:

22 Nd2 Rd3
23 Kf2 e3+
24 Ke2 exd2
25 Bxd2 Rxd2
26 Kxd2

With material about equal, White`s position looks solid, his King is in the center, he has files for his rook and a potential passed d pawn. On other 22nd moves by Black, White can improve his position by Nf1 or try his luck with Nxe4.
