Nov-27-06  madness: 20. Rd7 almost wins here. After move 19 White had about 10 minutes to get to move 25. Pathetic...
Nov-27-06  madness: That's 10 minutes to get to move 45. Even worse.
Nov-06-10  SetFreeByTruth: I played at this tournament when I was 15. It was Tal's first tournament in the U.S. I remember when we were all looking at the pairings for round one, and this guy started shouting, "I got the dream pairing! I got the dream pairing!" Pretty exciting, I guess, to be the first to play Tal in America!

I also remember getting Tal's autograph and being surprised when we shook hands - I didn't know at the time that he only had two fingers and a thumb on his right hand.

By the way, Tal won this tourney 5.5-0.5.

HeMateMe: Was this tournament played at a hotel near Ohare airport, chicago? I seem to remember him playing in that area, in the 1980s.

Eric Schiller: Yes. He was based at the University of Chicago and worked with me a bit. Playing Tal was a dream come true for him.
