Oct-17-05  n30: no kibitzing for this awesome game?
Oct-17-05  n30: OK, then I'll be first. (Take that "first" posters!) Can someone who actually semi-understands this game explain to me why 10 Kf1?
Oct-17-05  hayton3: <n30> The alternative Bd2 blocks the Queen's defence of d4 and allows black's response of Qa5 whereupon the knight is attacked and the d4 pawn has one less defender. If BxB then the black queen joins the attack against d4 with check unmolested by the knight as previous. The d4 pawn will fall at best.
Dec-08-05  Zettel: The d-pawn falls if White blocks the D file...hence, Kf1.

marcusantoinerome: Interesting. Petar Trifunovich, in the April 1970 issue of Chess Life & Review, annotates this game and has this to say:

"[10.Kf1] is a suggestion by theory, but of doubtful worth. Probably better is 10. Bd2 Qa5 11. Bc3 b5 12. a3 Bxc3+ 13. Nxc3 b4 14. axb4 Qxb4 15. Qa4 with equal play."
