Honza Cervenka: The final position with result is not the only problem. The course of game after the 18th move of white is very strange. I don't think that the gamescore is correct, but I have no idea how it can be repaired.
Sep-15-03  cruzian: One suggestion:
Could it be that the actual move was 16.Rf2 and not 16. Rd2? In that case after 18.Bxd5?? 18...Ng4 won exhange in f2 and the rest of moves look sensible enough. (Though 18.Bxd5 still looks very strange. )

Honza Cervenka: <cruzian> I think that you figured out this "puzzle". All the game with 16.Rf2 makes pretty good sense. 18.Bxd5 is a blunder, but not a ludicrous move.
Jan-17-15  poorthylacine: So there was not even one person in 1881 to comment and explain that? True that miracles cannot be explained...

Of course, with strong opponents surrounding in these kind of positions, it's no more surprising that Blackburne could win the tournament with an enormous advance...

I must acknowledge however that his win against Zukertort was another kind of game!!
