Kibitzer's Corner
Apr-14-09  Dr. J: 17 _?_ (White to play) could be a decent Tuesday puzzle: 17 dc wins a pawn ( ... Qxc5 18 Bxh7+). But it's not clear to me whether Black's 17th or 20th moves make things better or worse for him. Anyone?

If 55 ... Nxa6 56 bxa6 Qxa6 ( ... Qxc6? 57 Qb8+ any 58 a7 ) 57 c7 Qc8 58 h4 looks sufficient to me to eventually queen the c-pawn without allowing a perpetual.

If 70 ... Qc6, White forces an eventual Qf3+ exchanging (or winning the Black queen: 71 Qf8+ Kg5 ( 71 ... Ke5 obstructs the b8-h2 diagonal, so there is no perpetual after 72 c8/Q ) 72 h4+ Kxh4 73 Qh6+ Kg4 74 Qxg6+ Kf4 ( ... Kh4 75 g3# ) 75 Qg3+ Kf5 76 Qf3+ wins.

Quite an interesting game, actually.
