al wazir: White could have won with 29. Rd3.

If 29...Bg5, then 30. Rh3+ Bh6 31. Rxh6+ gxh6 (31...Kxh6 32. Qh3+ Kg5 33. Ne4#) 32. Qf7+, followed by Qg7#.

If 29...Nf6, then 30. Rh3+ Nh5 31. Qxe7 Rg8 (31...Qd7 32. Qxd7 Rxd7 32. Rxf8; 31...Rd7 32. Qxf8) 32. Qg5, and there is no defense against 33. Rxh5+.

If 29...Rf5, then 30. Rxf5 gxf5 31. Rh3+, and mate next. And of course if 29...Rxf2 or 29...Nxe5, then 30. Rh3+ with mate to follow.

Too bad. It would have been a candidate for a brilliancy prize or a <CG> weekend puzzle.
