Kibitzer's Corner
Nov-20-03  rohanaj22: brilliant end game tactics there. A knight has it's value in a situation like this
Dec-24-04  admeyer: Rogers annotated this game in a book on the Scandinavian with 3...Qd6!? It seems that black got out of the opening in one piece. It gives the opening alot of respect although for some reason or other, Kasparov never crushed the center counter the way the world's top openings expert should.

Anyway, Rogers got into severe time trouble once the ending rolled around. Kasparov is +300 points and these two factors are just too much to deal with.

Mar-21-06  Brown: 47...Kf2 is more tenacious than Kxf3
Oct-07-07  notyetagm: Position after 47 ... ♔g3xf3??:

Black (Rogers), in severe time trouble, has just blundered terribly with his last move.

Kasparov (White) now wins a piece with the very straightforward 48 ♖e4xf4+.

Position after 48 ♖e4xf4+:

The White e4-rook <REMOVES THE GUARD> twice, getting rid of both defenders of the Black e3-knight. The White rook captures (<DESTROYS>) the Black f4-pawn defender of the Black e3-knight while simultaneously <DRIVING OFF> the Black f3-king defender.

The result is the after the Black king moves out of check with 48 ... ♔f3-g2, White simply plays 49 ♔d2x♘e3, winning a whole piece.
