the bbpawn was probably still looking over at e5 when it were captured the first time a white piece touches c5 it might as well be the ejection seat activator for the wgpawn as well <<ker-spröing>> and a very patient wqknight -- plenty of oats & apples to keep that piece grazing in place, hopping precious few times, til it can secure mate |

 | | fredthebear: <Ibisha Biscotto: wowzeroö> What an apt description for this unique game! Most queenless middlegames are not so exciting. Black should have castled when he had the chance. In the final position, White is not only threatening pawn promotion, but the coming Nf6 arranges a Hook Mate by the rook on the back rank. Black's light-squared bishop can halt one threat, but not both. |

 | | ChessCoachClark: Another inaccurate pun, based on inaccurate pronunciation. Amin here is a name based on the Arabic word for faithful, trustworthy, honest, reliable, etc. It has a long second syllable. The Arabic word used to close out a prayer could have the same spelling in English, but it has two long syllables and is a prayer in its own right, meaning O God, answer my prayer. They are dramatically different words from the same 'root verb.' Not a total loss, but faulty as a pun. |

 | | An Englishman: Good Evening: This game hurt all three of me remaining brain cells. 20...Na4 creates a symmetrical formation that threatens mates on c3 and a3, but 21.Nxb5 seems to defend against both; 21...Ba6; 22.Nac7. |

Nov-10-21 | | goodevans: <18...Ndb6!> with the idea of creating mate threats with <...Na4> would have put White in a lot of trouble. click for larger view<18...Kg7> wastes a tempo so after <20.Nxa7> this idea no longer works. Fantastic game to play through. As for puns, at least <Phony Benoni> gave us a good one back in 2013. |

 | | Teyss: <goodevans> Well spotted. Black was probably fearing Re8+ but shouldn't have. 18...Ndb6! not only threatens ...Na4, it opens the diagonal for the c8 B so the defence 19.c3 is impossible because of Bf5+. White could try 19.a3 (or a4) Na4 20.Ka2 Nc3+ 21.Kb3 Nxd1 22.Rxd1 or 19.Rd3 Na4 20.Any b4 21.Any Nc3+ 22.Rxc3 bxc3. Interposing Re8+ does not change much.
In both cases Black wins the exchange, White will win it back with Nxa8 but remains a piece down without much compensation, his pieces on top of the board are uncoordinated and ...Bb7 is another threat. <As for puns, at least <Phony Benoni> gave us a good one back in 2013.> I thought it was in 2014. Time flies. |
