sisyphus: 5...d5 is not a bad idea, but 6...Na5? is. After 6...Bg4, Black has a slight advantage.
Dec-09-11  whiteshark: <sisyphus: .. < After 6...Bg4, Black has a slight advantage.>>

I know the Traxler often includes a piece sacrifice, but here I doubt about its correctness.

After <7.f3!> which piece do you want to sac, ♘c6 or ♗g4?

Dec-09-11  Dr. J: How about simply 6...Nxd4? If 7 Nxf7?! Kxf7 8 Qf3+ Ke6 9 Nc3 Ne7, and Black would seem to be much better off than in the normal Fried Liver. On any other 7th White move, Ng5 has only wasted a tempo.
Dec-10-11  whiteshark: <Dr. J:How about simply 6...Nxd4?> What position do you have in mind? After <1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Nf6 4.Ng5 Bc5 5.d3 d5 6.exd5 > there is only <6...Nd4>, and following your moves <7 Nxf7?! Kxf7 8 Qf3+> doens't make sense either as it's no check and 8...Nxf3 is good enough for me.
Dec-11-11  Dr. J: Sorry, I meant 6...Nxd5
Dec-20-11  fetonzio: wth is this guy playing d5 for when black can just castle and now the g5 knight looks stupid

Richard Taylor: <Joshka: SO does 5.d3 refute the Traxler..Sorry I don't have the keystroke question mark> It appears that 5. ... 0-0 is better leaving Black with a small advantage. (I used Komodo).

I think.
