Instead in the book of Sergent game CXLIX dated 1850 of Shibut game 87 dated 1850, Maroczy game 9 from 20 October 1850/52 But the mystery is solved, in my research I found in the book The Chess world 1865 Volume 1 pag 293 Maurian publishes 2 unreleased games at the time, this was one of the 2 between Morphy vs Mc Connel dated 1852 link: https://books.google.it/books?id=p3... | | MissScarlett: The game in that<Field> column of September 18th is Morphy vs J McConnell, 1849 not this one. Boden must have picked it from Maurian's column in the <Sunday Delta> of June 6th. So it was that game not this that was dated 1849. However, when both games appeared in <Chess World> in 1865, Staunton, presumably on Maurian's prompting, said they were from 1852. So the confusion seems to originate with Maurian. |

May you find among your "chess-rubbish" many such specimens of gold dust as you lately forwarded to us. We shall be most happy to enliven our columns with such fine games, particularly when played by such a youthful follower of Philidor as Paul Morphy.
