plang: This was Game 1 of their third round match in the World Championship tournament. A draw in the second game clinched the match for Krasenkov who went on to defeat Azmaiparashvili in the fourth round before losing to Short in the fifth. 4..f5 transposed into the Dutch defense bypassing lines where white plays g3. 9..b6 was new; 9..Bd7 had been played previously. After 13..Nc6! Krasenkov felt that the position was equal; 14 Nxd5..Nxd5 does not work because of the weakness of e3. Krasenkov and Seirawan both recommended 18 axb with a likely draw; the pawn sacrifice 18 Bc3?! did not work out well. Does white really have time for 25 Bxa6?! 29 Rb6? was a losing blunder; after 29 Bd3 white is still in the game.
