plang: Played in the second round of the World Championship tournament. After a 107 move draw in the first game this win by Rublevsky clinched the match. In the first round Rublevsky had defeated Spraggett while Shaked had defeated Morovic. In the third round Rublevsky was eliminated by Beliavsky. 12 Be7 was new; 12 Nbd2 and 12 Ng5 had been played previously. It does not seem to be an improvement for white. Seirawan recommended 38 e6..Qxh5 39 g4..Qg6 40 e7..Re8 41 a4 with black under pressure. 39 Kh2? was an error as 40 Nd4? could now be answered by 40..Qa2+. After 39 Re2 the game would have been about even. If 49 Rxd2..g4+ 50 Kh2..Nf3# - cute.
