Dec-05-03  Lawrence: Obviously not 11.Bxe7 because of 11.....Qf2# but the line 11.Nxe4 Qb4+ 12.Bd2 Qxe4 13.0-0 seems to give White a fair chance.
Aug-04-04  Papablanca: I think good old Jan Hein "er stevig van baalde" that he oversaw this tactic and didn't feel like playing on. By the way his nephew "Jan Piet Hein" is nowadays doing a good job at the law the department as a member of the Dutch goverment. Just like Jan Hein's father and one of his brothers where in the Dutch government in the past.
May-08-08  dakgootje: Nah, black actually does have an advantage after 11. Nxe4 Qb4:

If 12. Nc3 then obviously ...Bxg5 and black has just won a full pawn.

If 12. Nbd2 then 12. ...Bxg5 13. Nxg5 Qh4 14. g3 Qxg5 and black has won the full pawn again

If 12. Bd2 then 12. ...Qxe4 and something like 13. 0-0 d5 14. Bd3 Qh4 and both are positionally about equal while black is up a full pawn again.

Sep-15-08  Sem: Dear Papablanca, Donner deeply resented being called 'Jan Hein'. He was either 'Hein' or 'J.H. Donner'.
Jun-05-11  hansdrp: not clear why white gave up
