plang: 14 Ne5 was new and is now the main line; 14 Rc1 and 14 Re1 had been played previously. 15..Be7?! seems overly passive; 15..Nd7 looks better. Three months later at Essen Kasimdzhanov tried 17..Ra7 against Zvjagincev but lost quickly. The combination starting with 19 Nxd5! took advantage of the awkard placement of the knight on b8. More accurate would have been 25 R1c3 with the idea of freeing up the a-pawn to support the pawn on b5. 26..Qxb5? was premature; 26..Rf8 should have been played first.

14 Ne5 has scored very well since being introduced in this game calling the line with 12..a5 into question.
