plang: 10..Ng6 had been played in two 2001 games between de Vreugt and Markowski; 10..Bg4 was new. Adams was expecting 14..Bg6 and ...h6; instead after Vallejo Pons 14..Bd7?! White obtained tactical chances. After the game Adams found the line 20 Rfd1..Nd5 21 R7xd5..cxd 22 cxd+.. Kf7 23 hxg..Rh4 24 Rd4 with excellent compensation for the exchange. Vallejo Pons was able to create enough counterplay against Adam's king to earn a draw.
