  freewheel: very good pun.
Mar-26-20  Jamboree: Good pun -- but bad game. Kinda felt like a blitz game between C-players. White didn't seem capable of seeing more than one or two moves ahead. He dropped an exchange in the early opening, then launched a random desperado attack with essentially no chance of success and no long-term strategy, and almost immediately the tables were turned and he was the one being attacked, while already a rook down. If the scorecard had read "NN - Morphy, Simul, 1859," i'd have believed it.

offramp: Today's pun would be good as a prelude to G Grasser vs L Winokur, 2014, for which I gave the pun <"Suffern Suckerpunch">.
Mar-26-20  scormus: At least the pun was good!

OhioChessFan: Decent pun, bad game. But I only had 2 games to pick from, and Dafi had to lose for the pun to work.

OhioChessFan: <offramp> a fantastic pun for a wonderful game. Cg.c should make it GOTD immediately.

Knighthawkmiller: White seems to be a step behind each move. 17.e5 locks the diagonal, but controls the center, eventually followed by d6 may be a better attack.

G Grasser vs L Winokur, 2014 is a great game, and <it's by a member>, but it has already been GoTD, with the anaemic pun, "The Grasser Always Greener".

And G Grasser vs L Winokur, 2014 is in the <Guinness Book of Records> as the ONLY good game ever played in <Suffern, NY>, so we can't reattach my pun elsewhere.

OhioChessFan: Well, it should be GOTD again. Tomorrow.
Mar-26-20  RandomVisitor: <Jamboree>It certainly looks like white's attack is going nowhere. However the attack is apparently sound and this 21.Ng5! line shows that with best play white is at least even:

Mar-26-20  RandomVisitor: If white had played 18.g4! he would have had a winning attack:

<42/77 10:14 +3.05 18.g4 Rg8 19.gxf5> g5 20.0-0 Nb7 21.Qc3 Nc5 22.Bc2 Kf8 23.Re1 g4 24.Ne5 Rg7 25.Nd3 Nh5 26.Nxc5 Bf6 27.Nxd7+ Rxd7 28.Qb4+ Kg8 29.Ne4 Bxb2 30.Qxb2 Rf7 31.f6 Rf8 32.Re3 Rb8 33.Qe5 Nxf6 34.Ng5 Qd6 35.Qf5 Qd7 36.Ne6 Kh8 37.Qf4 Qf7 38.Qd4 Rbe8 39.Qc3 Rg8 40.Bf5 Qe7 41.Kg2 Rg7 42.Nxg7

Mar-26-20  Vibishana: I'd be inclined to play 18. g4. Then castling seems dangerous for Black and if 18...fxg then 19.Ng5 with the threat of Bxg6+. Neither 19...Kf8 or moving the Queen seem pleasant.

18...f4 19.g5 and the Knight is pinned.

18...Rg8 and White wins a pawn and maybe more
