Kibitzer's Corner
Sep-11-09  WinKing: Is the move ...Bg4?! good for black or white in the Caro-Kann? The jury is still out I believe. (...Bf5 is the more usual move played) White has won the majority of games where ...Bg4 has been played but further experimentation by top players will be needed to know for sure. Dreev gets away with a draw here but white looked to be controlling the play in this game till about move 35. Nigel plays 35.a4?! which appears to hand the initiative over to black. Better was 35.Nd2 keeping the game balanced. Dreev returns the favor with 35...Be1?!. 35...f3!? was better for black but it is doubtful whether either side could have won even with these inaccuracies. A draw seems to be the correct outcome.
