wordfunph: why did GM Short resign?
Apr-29-12  JohnDahl: This was the second of two rapid playoff games, Short having lost the first. Assuming the score is complete, I surmise that he may just have resigned in despair given that he had practically no winning chances.

See: http://www.chess.co.uk/twic/twic305...

Short's record against Ivanchuk is awful: <Including rapid/exhibition games: Vassily Ivanchuk beat Nigel Short 16 to 1, with 20 draws>

Apr-29-12  Murky: Black's 'b' pawn is vewry weak, and will eventually be lost. Then White's 'a' pawn has a bright future. And on the Kside, black has no real prospects. Pretty much just a lost game, though it could have been played out, sure.
