Here White saw a way of ending this protracted game quickly:
75. b3.
<With the immediate threat of 76. g8(Q).
For that reason, black can't play 75...Rxb3. But the pawn has to go so...>

75...Bxb3▢.
76. Rb2. <Pinning the bishop. The threat is now 77. Rxb3 Rxb3 78. g8Q.>
76...Rb7. <76...Rb8 loses quickly to 77. Rxb2 Rg8 78. Kh6+-.>

Suddenly Matanović's blood froze in his veins. If he played <77. Rxb3>, as he intended, then the simple reply 77...Rxg7 is a draw, ♖+♘ v ♖!

He had no choice but to try another tack, but it was too late. The game was drawn.
