Benzol: Instead of 16...♗f6 maybe Anderssen should have played 16...♘xd4. However, I still think White is better in that case.

Honza Cervenka: <Benzol> I agree, 16...Nxd4 was necessary.
Jan-25-04  Catfriend: It saves black from immediate death, but look at white's centre after that!

  Honza Cervenka: Funny line is 18...Kh8 19.Be2 g5 (19...Qg4 20.h3 and 21.Rg3) 20.Rh3 Qg6 21.Rh6 Qg8 (oh, the Queen escaped, but the prize is too high) 22.Rxf6

playground player: When Adolph Anderssen lost, he lost ugly!
Jan-28-08  just a kid: Couldn't Anderssen have tried 21...Qxg3,and only be behind a pawn??
Apr-29-09  sfm: <just a kid: Couldn't Anderssen have tried 21...Qxg3,and only be behind a pawn??> I think many masters would have tried that. Black is clearly lost, but that has never been sufficient reason to resign.
