 | | An Englishman: Good Evening: Quite the tactical melee. Is this the record for the longest combined names game? |
|
Feb-07-08 | | Khai Le: What about 7. Nxf7 !? ????? |
|
Feb-07-08 | | D.Observer: What is the disadvantage of 29. Rxg1? |
|
Feb-07-08 | | Alphastar: After 29. Rxg1 Qxc4 black retains a winning position, being up a piece. |
|
Feb-07-08 | | Samagonka: Was this a "Blitzpartie"? It seems all full of blunders to me. |

 | | Stonehenge: Why does this game always remind me of this sketch:

|
Feb-07-08 | | whiteshark: <Stonehenge> I've no idea. :D |

 | | Honza Cervenka: <Khai Le: What about 7. Nxf7 !? ?????> Nothing special I would say. 7...Nxf7 8.Bxf7+ Qxf7 9.Qxc5 d6 gives black some edge and he can play also 7...Bb4+ 8.c3 dxc3 (8...Nxf7!?) 9.Nd6+ (9.Nxh6+ g6 and the threat cxb2+ is decisive) 9...Kf8 10.Nxc3 cxd6! with extra piece though not absolutely comfortable play yet. |
|
Feb-07-08 | | kevin86: A brilliant finish! Black gladly gives up his queen...so long as there is an successor waiting in the wings. |
|
Feb-07-08 | | soberknight: Bizarre game. |

 | | Jimfromprovidence: 17 Nxf7 was inexplicable, losing a piece with no compensation. White should have tried 17 Qh5 (below), threatening 18 e6. click for larger view Assuming 17…Nxe5, then 18 Re1 O-O 19 Nh7 Re8 leaves white with very strong attacking potential. click for larger view |

Feb-07-08 | | Tomlinsky: <17 Nxf7 was inexplicable> Maybe his manager predicted this line would be played but omitted to mention that the 3 years of research provided came from a gypsy palm-reader? |
|
Feb-07-08 | | InspiredByMorphy: Took me a min to see the consequences of
13. ...Bxb4 where white can answer with 14.e5 and if ...dxe5 15.fxe5 and now if ...Bxb2 16.exf6 wins a piece. Or if 15. ...Nxe5 16.Bxb4 and white wins a piece. Lastly if 15. ...Qxe5 then 16.Re1 trades rook for queen. A nice move, and impressive that black saw the consequences of accepting the pawn. |

Nxe5 white is down three pawns, because the queen is under attack and white can't play 16 Bxb4.

 | | Phony Benoni: And here I thought the longest name in the database was Miles. |
|
Feb-07-08 | | Chessmensch: From Encyclopedia Mythica: In Etruscan myth, Lasa are female deities and the guardians of graves. That makes the name even more curios. (But, then, why the masculine "der?") Anyone know if Lasa has other meanings? |
|
Feb-07-08 | | Chessmensch: There is an interesting article on the Baron in Wikipedia. He has impressive chess credentials. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tassil... |
|
Feb-07-08 | | whiteshark: <Chessmensch> <Etruscan myth> I don't think so. In <Neues preussisches Adels-lexicon> von 1836> i.e. New Prusian nobility lexicon from 1836
http://books.google.com/books?id=Hd... it is said that <von der Lasa> is an additional name. It is also said that their family roots belong mainly to a region in Silesia. My guess is that this additional name came therefrom.
(Additional: the home/castle, where he died was 'near Lissa') |

 | | Stonehenge: <(But, then, why the masculine "der?") > You have to read is as <von> der Lasa. <Von> has the third case, <die> becomes <der> in the third case (singular). |

 | | GrahamClayton: <An Englishman>Good Evening: Quite the tactical melee. Is this the record for the longest combined names game? An Englishman,
If notm it would take some beating! For this game both players would have needed two scoresheets - one to record the moves and the other on which to write down their full name! |

 | | Stonehenge: They must have had a huge score sheet :) |

 | | MissScarlett: Game appears in the <Field> of October 1st 1853, p.319, featuring <Herr Vitzhum> and <Herr Heydebrant>, but, curious to relate, the game continues <29. Rxg1 Qxc4 30. Qxc4 Nxc4 31. Rc5 Ne3 32. cxd3 Nf1+ 33. Rxf1 Rxf1 34. Rxc7 Be6 35. Be5 Rf7 '& wins'>. |

 | | Telemus: See Schachzeitung (DSZ), August 1853, p 254 for the moves. Accordingly White resigned after Black's 35th move. And see page 253 for the possible date: 20 or 21 July 1853. |
