  MissScarlett: Linlithgowshire Gazette, May 1st 1936, p.8:

<Mr J. Keeble writes us:"A quite unusual incident followed the first-round game between Mr E. G. Sergeant and Miss Menchik at Margate Congress. At the end of the first sitting the game was adjourned, and when play was resumed a position was set up which gave Miss Menchik a pawn more than she ought to have had! One would have thought that two such experienced players would have noticed this, but they did not. Miss Menchik won the game, and later on it was left to a press correspondent to discover the error. The game, from the adjournment, had consequently to be replayed, and again Miss Menchik won it.">
