offramp: The first game of this (in the end) 11-game playoff match for the tied 1942 US Championship. The first half of the match was peripatetic and played at a very sedate pace.

This game was played on 7th October.
Game 2: 10th October
Game 3: 17th October
Game 4: 15th November
Game 5: 29th November, etc.

All in all pretty slow going. The second half, Game 7 onwards, was played at the Henry Hudson Hotel.

The venue of this first game was "Fort Fay", and the second game was played at "Camp Upton". Surely these are two great nicknames for the contestants themselves!

Reshevsky could easily have passes in some New York nightclubs as Fort Fay, who won't go away.

And Kashdan looks a dead ringer for Camp Upton, the night crawler who is camper than Jimmy Somerville's Caravan site.
