Dec-02-03  Catfriend: <patzer2> I think there is another variation: 28. Rd1 Rc7 29. Rd6 Bb5 30. Nd4 Bd7 31.h4! Ke7 32. N:Ne6 B:Ne6 33. Ra6 with winning chances.
Dec-02-03  patzer2: <Catfriend> Thanks for analyzing this line of play. You are far enough into Fritz's best variation that I do not doubt you have found another line to press the white advantage. It's not unusual for Fritz 8 to offer up to five good options or more with advantage on each move. In positions where best play only yields small advantages, the trick is to select those lines of play where those small advantages are most likely to keep increasing until they become winning advantages.
Nov-27-15  puzzler: It started a little more than a week ago: every time I want to go to another page, I get an internet pop up asking "do you really want to leave this page?" Does this come from internet or is it a new feature of CHESSGAMES.COM? Is it possible to get rid of this annoying pop up?
Nov-27-15  puzzler: This game is great, by the way!

Yeah, I get that. I've just left my puter constantly on this page. No problem. Welcome to chessgames, BTW.

PLEASE respond on this page only because I can't leave it.

Nov-27-15  Howard: Was not aware until recently that Cohn later died in World War I, just a few months before it ended.

thegoodanarchist: The pun makes only a little sense. First of all, Pumpkin Pie is the traditional desert this time of year, not ice cream cones.

Second of all, Cohn won. Why then would he scream?

Nor does "I scream 'Cohn' " make any sense. Maybe if he were 30 yards away and you wanted to get his attention, you might scream "Cohn!" But it was at a tournament - presumably Marco has enough manners not to scream at all.

Finally, ice cream cone is just a thing. Weird title for a chess game.

Nov-27-15  morfishine: Really, you gotta love <24.Nxc6>
Nov-27-15  Shams: <tga> Black yelling "Cooooohn!" is akin to arms-upraised Kirk yelling "Kaaaaaahn!" in Star Trek 3.

Then the title should be "Cooooohn!", no?

offramp: Cohn plays really well to reach a good attacking position. But how does he now continue?

24.Nxc6! It is really imaginative.

He plays 24.Qxg6! but black is on the qui vive and plays to keep things protected:

25...Qb7.

There are a few forced moves to reach this tough position, after 28...Ke7. If Cohn had calculated the consequences of 24.Nc6 then he probably didn't see farther than this position.

29.Bf5. Is that the best? Who knows?
