Kibitzer's Corner
Jan-02-10  jerseybob: In the book "Master of Risk Strategy" this game is mentioned in the notes to Spassky-Stein, USSR Chp. Playoff 1964. The comment after 14..Rd8 is "black gained a clear advantage". So what became of the clear advantage? I don't think allowing isolated doubled pawns on the e-file is the way to go, and black was way too anxious to grab the d4 pawn. Let me throw out two wild - maybe unsound - possibilities, both based on the ugly d4/e5 pawn pair: A:15.h5,Nb4!? and 15..Nxe5?! 16.dxe5, Bf5. I don't have a Chess program, so could somebody do a little crunching and find out black's best move after 15.h5?
Jan-02-10  Keith Dow: My cheap program recommends

15. ..Qa3
16. Bc1 Qa5
17. Rh4 Be6

0.17 for white
