May-17-11  Sacrificial King: Enjoyed this one, glorious King march to success....despite double backwards pawns by means of exchange.

I thought black much worse here given pawn structure early on..

OhioChessFan: <SK> yeah, look at this position after Black's 11th:

It is hard to believe Black won this looking at that. But White insisted on throwing away tempi the whole game. I really don't see the point of the b3/b4 two step. 15. b4 to begin with was fine. The overprotection of the f4 Knight wasted some of the LSB moves, and then moves the Knight to trade Bishops anyway? 29. a3 was a total waste of a move. 29. Nc3 there and I think White wins. The Knight dance to b5 after Ka2, and then right back to c3 was another 2 tempi wasted.

Domdaniel: Black gets an utterly ruined pawn structure. But he also gets the bishop pair, and White can't castle. Is it worth it for Black? Not really ... as Ohio said, White had to make a few weak moves in order to lose.

Domdaniel: Black's 3...e5 is a radical attempt to exploit the latent weakness of the Tarrasch, 3.Nd2. This idea is more often seen in the Guimard variation after 3...Nc6, perhaps with ...e5 to follow.
