Kibitzer's Corner
Feb-21-04  Reisswolf: Why didn't Shirov play 27. Ne6?
Feb-21-04  ruylopez900: <Reisswolf>

27.♘e6 falls to 27...♕b6+ ♔h1(or blocking with the Rook)28.♕xe6.

Feb-21-04  Benjamin Lau: A rare Bogo Indian at the GM level.
Feb-21-04  Reisswolf: But Ben, I was thinking:

27. Ne6 fxe5 28. Qe5 Rxe1+ 29. Kxe1 Bf6 (forced because of the threat of mate) 30. Nxd8 Bxe5 31. Nxb7.

Or am I missing something very elementary?

Feb-21-04  Reisswolf: Ah! Never mind!

Thanks ruylopez900!

Feb-21-04  Benjamin Lau: Reisswolf, I erased my analysis later because I realized that Topalov does have an inbetween move, but it was not the one I mentioned, it was ruylopez's simple Qb6+
Feb-21-04  Slovensko: Shirov missed (probably due to time trouble) 37. Qd8+ Kg7 38. Qxd4+ followed by 39. Nxe4 after black moves his king. Draw would still be highly likely though, as both kings are open with queens on the board.
