Mar-21-04  Bloody Tinfoil: Okay, I may not really understand fully, but why is this a draw? Both sides still have equal chances, and things could come around that would make this a win for either side. You never know, grandmasters do mess up sometimes. Wasn't it a grandmaster game that the whole 2 move checkmate was discovered?
Mar-21-04  ruylopez900: My thoughts are that Things are a little tied up (though admittedly there is chance for some play w/ all 6 major pieces on the board) and also Kasparov wanted to play as White and win the game and series. As for the 2 move checkmate I don't know.
Mar-21-04  Bobsterman3000: Wasn't this the first game between Timman and Kasparov at the Reykjavik Rapid? I think tourney format may have come into play here.

I would guess that Kasparov was not going to force the issue as black knowing that he had the white pieces in the next game, and then the white pieces again in case of a sudden-death tiebreaker...

Mar-22-04  ruylopez900: <Bobsterman> Yes, I agree, see my comment below (or above depending on your prefs) about Kasparov wanting to play White for the series.

May-12-04  AgentRgent: I'm not sure which game either BT but I do remember hearing about it. In fact, if I recall correctly the player missed the mate in 2 Twice!
