Jun-16-05  DanRoss53: Was Topalov trying to improve on 20. ♗d3 here? Does anybody else think 22. g4 may have been the better move? Could 42. ♘d2 have held the draw?
Jul-06-08  TheBB: 22. g4, at least, is bad, say 22... Ra7 23. h3 (in light of Rg7) Rg7 24. Bh4 h5

plang: 20 Bxd5?! was new but looks dubious; 20 Bd3 has been played successfully before but the whole line seems to have fallen out of favor for White. White was lacking one tempo to prevent 21..f4! after which Black was clearly better. 24 Kf1 controlling e1 and e2 would have been an improvement. A tougher defense would have been 27 Qxe4..Rxe4 28 Ne3..Rexf4 29 Nd1 though Black would have been clearly better; instead after Topalov's 27 Kg2?..Qxf3 28 Kxf3..Re1 Black was lost. 42 Ne5? lost at once; a better defense (though losing) would have been 42 Nd2..Rh4 43 h3..Rf6 44 Kc2..Rfh6 45 Ra1..Rxh3 46 Rad4..Kg7 47 Rb8..Rh2 48 Rxb5..Rf6.
Oct-03-17  Whitehat1963: Good high-level look at the venerable Opening of the Day.
