  tpstar: <white pawn> Mr. Heisman posted his early games with annotations for other chess enthusiasts to study and review. The first lesson is how 9 ... Bxc3?! is dubious due to 10. Ba3! D Heisman vs D Fennick, 1967; 9 ... d5 is correct. Second, 12. Bg5! won material (12 ... Ne7 13. Qa3) since 12 ... Qe8 13. Rbe1 Bxe1 14. Rxe1 and Black has nothing better than 14 ... Qxe1+ 15. Nxe1 (14 ... Ne7? 15. Rxe7 Qd8 16. Re1 Qe8 17. Rxe8 Rxe8). Third, after 14. Qxa5 White had a piece for 2 Pawns but the win still required some technique; 15 ... d5!? was OK (I like 15 ... Bb7) but 16 ... c6? lost more material to 17. Bxc6 since the Ne7 was pinned, then 17 ... Bd7? 18. Bxa8 1-0. Correct was 16 ... Bd7 17. Bxd7 Qxd7 18. Ne5 and White should win handily. An instructive game.
May-17-06  dakgootje: thought generally 8. ...Nxc3 is not very good for black, even though often played.
