plang: Played at Dortmund 2000 (10 player round robin); Anand tied for 1st with Kramnik at +3 each with one loss. Piket spent an hour on 15..h6?! but it was not an improvement on 15..Qd7 as played in Bologan-Tkachiev Enghien-les-Bains 1999 which White won after a sharp struggle. Bologan suggested instead 15..Ba5 16 Na7..Bxf3 17 gxf..Nxd4! 18 Bxf7+..Kxf7 19 Rza5..c5 with counterplay for Black. 18 Bxe4?..dxe 19 Rxe4..Nxe5! would have helped Black. With almost no time left Piket went for faulty tactics with 18..Rxe5?; better was 18..Ng5. A better defense would have been 21..Ne5 22 Rae4..Nxf3+ 23 gxf..Bf5. Black would still have had chances had White played 23 Re2?..Ne5.
