Apr-03-05  RookFile: Big league win for Smyslov!
Apr-04-05  shortsight: Kaspy attack went up in smokes.
Jan-11-06  TopaLove: Hum...Kasparov was rated only 2596 in 1980? Interesting...
Jan-11-06  TheParadigm: I think his rating took a drastic upward turn somewhere near here.

Kasparov's rating in 1980 was 2595, which was good enough to rank him 16th-17th in the world. Not bad for a 17 year-old.

Sep-25-09  AnalyzeThis: Good enough that a Fischer who hadn't played in 8 years still would have slapped him around.
Sep-25-09  Olavi: Any idea where this is supposed to have been played? They didn't meet in any official tournaments that year.
Sep-25-09  WhiteRook48: good enough that he would have easily have drawn Fischer
Apr-01-10  BraveUlysses: < Olavi: Any idea where this is supposed to have been played? They didn't meet in any official tournaments that year. >

Apparently this game took place in a pre- Chess Olympiad training tournament in Moscow.

Oct-09-11  birthtimes: Other databases list this game as Smyslov vs. Boensch. Kasparov did not play this game.
Feb-24-12  King Death: <birthtimes: Other databases list this game as Smyslov vs. Boensch. Kasparov did not play this game.>

How about a little corroboration for this....let's see...... http://www.365chess.com/search_resu...

This may not be cut and dried and wouldn't make it in a court of law but it makes a lot more sense than a bunch of speculation.

Jan-04-13  King Crusher: This is not the Kasparov that I know. As a training game not played under tournament conditions it should not be taken too seriously. Fischer would have slapped Kasparov around? Then why did'nt he? Why was he only willing to play aging fall guys like Spassky who were paid to lose?
