Kibitzer's Corner
Jan-07-05  ArturoRivera: Playing the philidor against Tal, what the hell that guy was smoking?
Jan-07-05  Shams: yes a very convincing game.

is 6.g3 the standard move? I always play 6.Bc4

Jan-07-05  ughaibu: I dont think Tal was a standard player.
Jan-08-05  ArturoRivera: i agree, he wasnt very standart.
Jan-08-05  Ruylopez: What kinds of defenses worked better against Tal?
Jan-08-05  iron maiden: <Ruylopez> Probably anything that didn't give him the initiative.
Jul-27-07  Alphastar: Instead of the manouvre 12..Na6 and 13..Nc5, far better is probably 12...Qa5! 13. Bb2 Ba3; after the exchange on a3 play is probably equal.

OrangeTulip: I would even dare to say, he was not the archetype of a standard player
Nov-07-18  tonsillolith: If I had to choose between standard and nonstandard, as a descriptor of Tal as a chess player, I would feel the necessity of choosing the latter.

fredthebear: Antoshin played the Philidor Defense a fair amount w/mixed results:
Jun-24-22  Ricosupercapo: Tal was a right handful at Blitz
